How to Use ATIS Relay
Any use in flight is at your own risk. Reports can be delayed or inaccurate, and this data is not intended for operational use.
SMS Usage
A phone, Starlink, other in-flight Wi-Fi, or a satellite phone
Text a supported airport code to 866-671-9172. You can send that text from a cell phone, from Starlink, from other in-flight Wi-Fi that can send a text, or from a satellite phone. The home page updates while your request is in progress.
- Text the ICAO code of a supported airport, such as KSAN or KSFO. A 3-letter code works when it matches a supported airport, such as SFO for KSFO.
- For D-ATIS airports, you get a reply within seconds. That text comes from FAA SWIM and is labeled not for operational use.
- For airports ATIS Relay transcribes from the phone line, you get the text back in about 80 seconds.
- When an airport publishes separate arrival and departure ATIS, you receive both, each as its own text.
Arrival, departure, and short texts
- Text
KSFO arrivalwhen you want arrival only. - Text
KSFO departurewhen you want departure only. - Text
KSFO shortfor a shorter reply. You get the first two sentences, marked/msg trimmed. - You can combine them, such as
KSFO short arrivalorKSFO short departure.
ASOS and AWOS
- Text
KMYF ASOSorKMYF AWOSwhen that airport has that automated weather line. TextKMYF ATISwhen you want ATIS. - If you leave off the airport, or that airport does not offer what you asked for, the reply tells you what you can text.
- A fresh automated report is sent right away. Otherwise the line is called and you get the weather in the reply, labeled ASOS or AWOS.
- At an airport that only has automated weather, the airport code alone requests that weather.
- When a community station has already saved a transcript for an airport that is not on the ATIS phone list, texting that code returns the transcript.
When the tower is closed
If the recording is a tower-closed announcement, you get the ASOS or AWOS weather instead. The text tells you the tower is closed and which automated weather you are getting. If that line does not answer, you get the latest METAR when one is available.
HELP, STOP, and START
- Text
HELPorINFOfor a short reminder: text an ICAO for ATIS, add ASOS or AWOS such asKMYF ASOS, and where to subscribe. - Text

Free texts and a subscription
Reading ATIS on the website is always free. Each phone number gets 5 free texts. The fourth text notes that you have 1 free text left, and the fifth notes that it is your last free text. After that, the reply points you to subscribe.
A subscription gives you unlimited ATIS requests online, in the app, and by text from a verified phone number. If you already subscribe in the ATIS Relay app, verify your number so those texts stay unlimited. Unlimited texts use an ATIS Relay subscription. An OwnNav subscription does not unlock them.
Texts are also paced so the line stays available. If you send too many in a short time, the reply asks you to wait and try again. If you reach the daily limit, the reply asks you to try again tomorrow.
- If that airport is not supported yet, the reply says so and sends you to the supported airports list.
- If the phone line cannot be reached, you get a text asking you to try again in a few minutes.
- These messages can be long and may arrive as more than one text. Your phone rates apply.
- Save the number with Add to Contacts. That card lists the arrival, departure, and short commands.
- Service availability is not guaranteed.
